Netscape Communicator 4.08 is a web browser developed by Netscape Communications Corporation, available for download in full install version for Windows platforms from legacy sources. This version of Netscape was officially released on 1997-06-11 for public access and a brief summary of important updates and change log pertaining to this edition can be read below.

Netscape Communicator 4.0 is the  Netscape suite of applications including Navigator, Mail, Newsgroups, Address Book and  Composer. This edition is based on its 3.0 code and a row of releases with last edition being 4.08 for Win 3.1x and Win 95 platforms.

Netscape added a functionalities in this series which includes support for CSS1, Netcaster Push technology, Minimal Dynamic Font,  Object Element, Macro-media Flash Plugin, and Smart Browsing. NetWatch is introduced for parental control of browsing. This is the last edition to be commercially sold by Netscape as the company announces the Netscape browser is made free and open source is being developed through Mozilla foundation.
